Our History

The Gold Leaf was originally started in 1983 by a talented calligrapher named Harvest Crittenden, who created the logo and most of the font styles that are still in use today. She made the plates from scratch, and hand lettered all the text. Then in 1987, in a bow to technology, Harvest changed to laser technology and entered all her designs and font styles into a computer, and began making her plates by laser.

Still a small cottage business, in 2002, it was purchased by Sally Kenny in Ohio, who single handedly entered the business into the internet era, and grew it exponentially by expanding its reach across the country, and internationally to more than several countries around the world. She became known for her commitment to detail and her endless effort to make every customer happy. Finally in 2021, after 20 years building the business, and working seven days (and nights we believe) as the sole proprietor and employee, Sally decided it was time to take some time and enjoy life and her family.

In June of 2021, after years of friendship, and a lot of nudging by Sally, we agreed to purchase the business, and more it to our home town of Dedham Mass, where it now resides along side our firm, Guido Frames. Having worked in the gilding field for over 60 years, it was a natural fit, and made Sally feel secure the company would continue on and prosper. It took us us a full year to finally get up to speed on every aspect of the business, and we honestly don’t know how Sally was able to manage the entire operation on her own, but she did.

Our goal is to maintain the quality and customer service Sally was known for, and then expand the offerings to include additional gilds, finishes and sizes, which is now in progress. We can only hope to live up to Sally’s standards. It’s a high bar, but we will do our best to make her proud.
